Easy Ponyo + Sosuke Couple’s Halloween Costume

Michael LOVES Ponyo (especially the Ponyo song, lol iykyk), so for our second year of Ghibli Halloween costumes we did Ponyo and Sosuke! Ponyo is just toooo cute (it’s a kids movie) so I was really excited for this particular year because I knew it would be adorable + I’ve never seen someone do it!

Funny story: We were sharing our Halloween pictures at work and someone’s 6-year old daughter went trick or treating as Ponyo and then there was me at twenty-something year old also dressed up as Ponyo LOL. I said, “Let’s move on from my picture because I know there’s someone way cuter who dressed up as Ponyo” xD and turned out his daughter’s name is also Emily!

This Halloween costume was super easy and it’s likely you have some items already in your closet! All of our pieces are super old or thrifted, but I linked some similar ones!

Ponyo

+ Red Sweetheart Eyelet Dress – any red dress with poofy sleeves will work
+ White Ruffle Skirt – a fluffy white skirt underneath as a petticoat is the key feature of this outfit!
+ Tan Flats or Sandals – Ponyo is technically barefoot lol
+ Pearl Earrings – as an homage to Ponyo’s ocean home! It’s the little touches~

Sosuke

+ Mustard Yellow Shirt
+ Gray Shorts
+ Gray or White Shoes
+ Captain’s Hat

Prop: Sosuke’s Boat

And then we did attempt to carve a boat (as Sosuke’s prop)…it did not turn out, but here it is LOL.

And there it is! Even though this costume is so simple, it was very sweet so I really liked this year’s concept. Ponyo and Sosuke are so endearing, I think we could all learn something from them.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post! I love you and see you next week.

Xo,
Em

“And Sosuke loved Ponyo, whether she was a fish, a human, or something in between” 🌊🛳
