Japan: Beauty Haul

I know everybody loves Japan content so I thought I’d share a haul of Japan beauty products! If you’re a girlie wanting to bring home some goodies, I thought this list might be helpful if you are looking for some suggestions. We’ve got skincare, makeup, haircare and nail products too. I have both drugstore and high-end products, as well some repeat purchases I’ve tried before (but most are new to me~).

Here are some tips I’ve gathered over the years for shopping beauty products in Japan:

  • Ainz & Tulpe is a popular chain fully dedicated to cosmetics. When I first landed in Japan years ago, one of my coworkers took me here when I told her I need to stock up on things for my apartment (like shampoo/conditioner)
  • Don Quixote is a megastore that has EVERYTHING, including tons of beauty products. I think it’s especially good to get souvenirs for others.
  • Look for the Cosme Award stickers for items rated the top beauty products in Japan. (But truthfully, I don’t trust marketing schemes like this LOL especially in America but maybe it is actually trustworthy in Japan???)
  • Some of the products shown are indeed available in America (if not in-store, then at least online), but it is likely cheaper in Japan!
  • If you want to get some souvenirs for any men in your life, I think Japan has a much larger proportion of personal care products designed for men compared to the states!
  • Take advantage of being a visitor and be sure to get your tax refund if you purchase over 5,500JPY worth of stuff in one transaction!
  • If you go the tax-free route, know that you are not allowed to open any of those products until you return to the US! If you want to use an item immediately, please purchase it separately.

For the most part, I think these items below will be fairly decent purchases. Most everything I got was based on research through blogs, reading through reviews, recommendations from friends, or social media “influenced” buys — only a couple were bought on impulse! But also, beauty is just fun so I say go crazy and take this opportunity to indulge!!!

    1. Hi Becca! I’ve not tried all the products yet, but what I can definitely vouch for are:
      1. Shiseido Fino Premium Touch Hair Mask – I’ve purchased multiple of these over the years and even bought it for my little male cousin who asked for a product to help with frizz!
      2. SK-II Facial Treatment Essence – My mom loves it.
      3. Shiseido Eudermine Activating Essence – My friend has amazing skin and says this is what changed her skin.
      4. Shiseido MAQuiallage Dramatic Essence Concealer Stick – Highly recommend this concealer.
      5. Keana Nadeshiko Rice Moisturizing Mask – I’ve bought/received multiple of these and when I wake up my skin looks so much brighter!
      6. Chacott Finishing Powder – I’ve bought multiple of these. Really nice to dust over makeup if you have oily skin.
      7. Nivea Japan Moist Pure Color Lip – I use this almost every day. Best chapstick.

      Things I wouldn’t recommend:
      1. CoringCo Cotton Candy Makeup Brush Capsule – I bought this on a whim because I needed some brushes but I did not enjoy them.
      2. Uzu Mote Mascara Flowfushi – I bought this because from a recommendation but I think it is just OK.
