First things first – before all the haters say, “Wowwwww, it took him such a long to propose” – for those unaware, MP did propose to me and actually it was back in 2022 LMAOOOOOO.
I don’t think I ever shared how MP proposed to me so here is our proposal story!
OUR PROPOSAL STORY
Back in 2022, we went to Maui for vacation – my first time ever going to Hawaii!~ Now given Hawaii is a place where people get proposed to…the smallllllllllllllesssttttt of inklings did pass my mind for a 1/10 of a second that he might propose purely because it’s Hawaii…but besides that I had zero and I mean ZERO idea he was going to propose. We had literally NEVER talked about it and he had never even asked me how/when I would like to be proposed to lol. So I really did not think it was going to happen and I was totally shocked!
Not to mention, in true MP oblivious fashion, he did not follow any of the typical expectant “rules.” Like he provided absolutely no forewarnings for me to be ready for it whatsoever: my hair was not done, I didn’t have any makeup on, I had packed zero nice outfits (& especially the outfit I was wearing the day of was frumpy as hell lol I was just trying to stay warm), my nails were not done, etc…NOT cute lol. So yea, I had no clue what was coming x)

But anyways…it was on the last day of our trip. We had just finished watching the sunset on the top of Mount Haleakala which is one of the highest summits in the world, even taller than Mount Everest if measuring from the sea base level. It was absolutely surreal and one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen! After the sunset finished, with clouds everywhere and a soft warm glow all around us, he got on one knee and popped the question!~

(Following MP’s lack of awareness of proposal etiquette lol) We actually do not have any pictures from the proposal itself or after the proposal lol but those are some photos from just minutes before!!
Besides the fact that he did not prep me for it & that he did it in front of other people/strangers (truly mortifying for me lol), as you can see the setting was absolutely incredible & super romantic so good job, MP!~
We did not have a proper engagement party. If you can afford it, go for it! If you’re being cost conscious, with all of the expenses and parties that go with a marriage, I think an engagement party is not a priority. But! Here are photos from 1) an engagement celebration brunch with Halina (her sister Dez made this cute custom bag & cup with a volcano & our engagement date!!) and 2) we also ran into Michael’s Uncle Scott and Aunt Peggy at Pamplemousse and they surprised us with celebratory champagne 🥰

I’ll talk about the ring he proposed to me with (and the ring I actually got 🤫) in the next post!
Thanks for reading!

Fun Story: When I was in college, I had worked at a bougie fitness studio in a high-income area and a bunch of the ladies that worked out there would go on vacations to Hawaii. Whenever someone had an upcoming trip, I would always excitedly ask them, “DO YOU THINK HE’S GOING TO PROPOSE,” and MP thought it was horribleeeee that I would ask that question and get their hopes up because more often than not they did not come back engaged x) Well, looks like I came back from Hawaii engaged so I guess it wasn’t out of this world for me to ask that ^-^
