Back in 2021, I shared how I started selling my old belongings and made over $1000 within 8 months! Today, I’m sharing some new tips now that I’ve made over $3000 in sales (~$4k in revenue, $3k+ in profit)! It’s a nice way to make some easy cash and it never hurts to have some extra dough on the side! Personally, I give the $ to my parents or use it on them when I take them on vacations.

Everything I wrote in my original post are all things that I still recommend and still do, but below I’ll share some additional tidbits I’ve picked up in the past year or so~
- Free Shipping Label Print – When I had first started getting into resale, I spent hours looking for a thermal printer so I wouldn’t have to pay so much for printing (ink is $$$). But now, Mercari offers USPS QR codes that allow you to print for free at the post office
- Overweight Charges – If your item might be overweight, avoid those hefty USPS charges by bypassing the USPS staff (and their unforgiving weight scales) and getting it straight to the mailman or into the bin drop. To do this, you’ll need to get your shipping label elsewhere ahead of time (i.e. at home or at a print shop) and NOT at the USPS front desk (do NOT do the QR method from #1)
- Free Postal Services – DoorDash was offering free postal services for several months and it was GLORIOUS. A DoorDasher would come and pick up your packages from your front door, bring it to the USPS/UPS/FedEx and do the shipping labels for you, and then send you a receipt! While it is no longer free, keep an eye out in case the deal comes back. Otherwise at $3 per 5 packages, it’s still a nice option that saves you some time + effort
- Mass Edit Photos – This is a classic hack of mine from the good ol’ Tumblr days~ I, like every other preteen and teenager, LOVED my VSCO. While VSCO has unfortunately changed for the worse since the Tumblr era, I still love their “copy/paste edits” function which allows you to easily mass edit your listing photos in seconds
- Sell in Bundles / Lots – Selling things in bundles or lots (Ex: 5 t-shirts in one listing as opposed to individuals) is not only less overhead, but they seem to sell more quickly and therefore more money, sooner
- Delete Old Listings – If you go to any shopping website, they never show their old items + there’s no need to share past prices, so take the time to remove your old completed listings once they’re aged elgible to be deleted
- Set a Limit – Give yourself inventory and turnover limits. I keep all of the inventory confined to two bins (1 for clothes, 1 for misc). And if things don’t sell after XXX days, then go ahead to donate/discard. Realistically, you can’t sell everything so no point in keeping it around taking up sq. footage if it’s not going to sell
I hope these tips are helpful and I hope this inspires you to start a resale page so you can declutter and make some extra $$!
Love ya,
Em
